South Africa
Legend revives when the DC-4 Skymaster leaves Cape Town on route to it’s new home in Amsterdam. Historically significant destinations throughout Africa will be ventured to along the way, as well as will major hubs in Europe. A chronicle of this journey including a profile of the story of the history, acquisition and restoration, behind-the-scenes access to the training of technicians and crew, and a travelogue to rival the Orient Express are expected to garner significant attention and will form the launch for the television series.
New York
In 1946, KLM became the first European airline to add a transatlantic connection to New York to its schedule using the DC-4 Skymaster. The Polygon Journal (a post-second World War news broadcast) marvelled at the achievement of connecting Amsterdam to New York – a feat of engineering that once seemed impossible. On the seventieth anniversary, the DC-4 Skymaster will recreate this historic flight by arriving in New York at terminal four operated by Schiphol.
South America
In 1946, KLM introduced the first official KLM flight to Rio de Janeiro. Seventy years after this heroic arrival, the DC-4 Skymaster will again make an appearance in Rio de Janeiro to coincide with the 2016 Olympic games. Subsequent promotional flights in South and Central America, the United States of America and Canada are envisaged.
Batavia and tour through Asia
In late 1945, KLM restored the connection to ‘the East’. The DC-4 Skymaster will depart from Amsterdam to Batavia to commemorate this important route. A promotional tour through Asia could follow.
Curaçao
2016 is the seventieth anniversary of the KLM connection from Amsterdam via New York to Curaçao starting. This is an exciting opportunity to bring our DC-4 Skymaster on a tour to the overseas parts of the Kingdom. Associative opportunities exist to connect with the space flights that will make flight from SXC space travel agency from Curacao.
In addition to the aforementioned flights, trade missions to major international air shows will be organized annually. The Flying Dutchman will also be available to partner organisations for promotional tours and events.
